Idris Elba plays the title role in Mandela: A Long Walk to Freedom, the film based on Nelson Mandela’s autobiography of the same name. But I’m sure you’re already familiar with this title, right? Good then, head inside to find the latest trailer for this real-life drama, which is set to hit theaters later this month!
Directed by Justin Chadwick, the movie chronicles Mandela’s early life, coming of age, education and 27 years in prison before becoming President and working to rebuild the country’s once segregated society.
This is the first real biopic I’ve done, and there’s no real difference in the process, but it’s Mr. Mandela. So that’s huge, everyone knows who he is and what he sounds like, and I look nothing like him. If I get judged, which I will, about my performance or how I sound or how I look, I think people miss the point. The point is that this is called Long Walk to Freedom, this is the book about his life and it’s his own words.
Beside Elba who plays the first black president of South Africa, and Naomie Harris as his wife Winnie, the rest of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom includes Tony Kgoroge, Riaad Moosa, Zolani Mkiva, Jamie Bartlett, Lindiwe Matshikiza, Deon Lotz and Terry Pheto.
The movie opens on November 29th, 2013.
